A confident Thys Hattingh only ends looking like a bit of an idiot on MasterChef SA If anyone was going to win the Passion Hazelnut Gateau challenge it had to be Thys Hattingh and he knew it too. Desserts are his game and there was no doubt in his mind that the competition, Jade de Waal and Deena Naidoo were no match for his mercurial dessert talents. He had a swagger about him telling everybody who would care to listen how well he was going to do. "This is what I love doing, so ...

Jade de Waal said goodbye to MasterChef SA after she finally succumbed during her third elimination pressure test in a row. Things were looking relatively peachy for Jade de Waal for a while as she got to work on her Chocolate Gateau recipe. Jade must have fancied her chances up against Deena Naidoo who acted as though he had never baked a cake in his life before. While Thys Hattingh would be the one who represented the toughest challenge  with desserts being his strong point ...

MasterChef SA episode eleven ends with a cliffhanger as Khaya Silingile storms to the front of the pack. In what started out as a slow paced episode of MasterChef SA with the contestants preparing dishes paired with wine for a range of South African celebrities the show suddenly came to an abrupt halt with Khaya Silingile preparing for a cook off with Ruben Riffel and Deena Naidoo, Sarel Loots and Jade de Waal (again) facing an elimination pressure test. She chose to go with a Chocolate ...

MasterChef Judge Pete Goffe-Wood and his Angelfish Recipe with pesto, asparagus and new potatoes. When it comes to the braai we all to often get overrun by boerewors, chops and steak, fish is often overlooked. My theory on this is that nobody really believes that a meal can cook so quickly and have this innate fear that it's not cooked through properly. Well we can debunk that right now, fish is the ideal quick braai meal. It's the roasted garlic for the pesto that takes forever. ...

Berdina Schurink crashes out of MasterChef SA in unspectacular fashion with underdone Rack of Lamb. It was the second week in a row that Berdina Schurink found herself having to deal with a pressure test after presenting the judges with uncooked meringue on her tart in episode four of MasterChef SA. She easily trumped the koeksister challenge that day and survived to move on to the Team Challenge. This week she found herself facing the pressure challenge in dramatic fashion after the ...

The MasterChef Judges, Benny Masekwameng, Pete Goffe-Wood and Andrew Atkinson hand out advice as to cooking gourmet potatoes. Straight off the bat we simply cannot agree with Benny, the art of making a great mash potato is to bake the potatoes, not boil them. By baking them you do not run the risk of having too much moisture which tends to make them a little wet and runny, if not dried properly. What you want to do is bake the potatoes, remove the skin and add a little salt and ...
