"The Man with a Thousand Faces" Alvin Quah. He was here, he was there, he was everywhere. No matter where one looked or went at the Good Food & Wine Show you saw or heard Alvin Quah as he happily moved from stage to stage participating in several activities at the 2011 Good Food & Wine Show. I first caught a glimpse of Alvin on Thursday morning when he gladly posed for a few photographs, I'm glad I caught him then because by Sunday evening he must have been exhausted. He had several shows ...

The Tea Merchant walked away with the grand prize for Best Exhibit at the Good Food and Wine Show, Johannesburg Editon, 2011. The stand was innovative and it's bamboo structure conveyed it's message well, perfectly complementing the products on display. The wall was filled with pitucres of tea plantations which really gave this tiny little stand great depth. The Tea Merchant specialises in the importation, design and ranging of tea and tea related products. It was only three months ago that ...

Gordon Ramsay cruised into town last week on a private jet to take part in the Johannesburg edition of the Good Food & Wine Show. Renowned for his foul language, abrasive attitude and in some quarters for his culinary abilities there were some pretty high expectations for the man who once wanted to be a professional footballer. His shows were sold out throughout for the three days he was at the event as people north of the Vaal flocked in to see the man in action. They were not disappointed ...

Adam Liaw visited the Jacaranda FM studio's last week during his whistle stop tour, where Drive Show host, Martin Bester blindfolded him and presented a variety of dishes from milk tart to pap and a rich and creamy maas. Adam had to guess what each dish was and showed some surprising knowledge about some of our traditional food. Adam, all is forgiven.

The second biggest disappointment (I’ll get to the first later) at the Good Food & Wine Show this past weekend was the appearance and sudden disappearance of Adam Liaw. I only gave the performance schedule a cursory look, not overly concerned with the show times as I had four full days to see everybody. The plan was to arrive, see who was on the main stage and then secure myself a seat as and when it suited me. So on day one I opted for Alvin Quah and Sophie Michell. Day two of my show ...

There could only be one winner in this category and it's been not so subtly referred to by Dexter in an earlier article about a hop-hip/rap artist named Ludacris Christopher or something along those lines. Johnnie Walker came away from the Good Food & Wine Show with flying colours for the Most Interactive Exhibit (official, not us). Those of you who visited the Taste of Joburg but not the Good Food & Wine Show would have seen it at Montecasino too. The exhibit offers visitors the opportunity ...

Conjure Cognac at the Good Food and Wine Show, I have only one think to say... Ludicrous

Did I say Ludicrous, I meant to say  Christopher Bridges aka Ludacris, the multi award winning, multi platimun hip hop/rap artist that is Ludacris. He launched, along with cognac house Birkedal Hartmann, his own brand of cognac in America a few years ago, where African American's reportedly comprise anywhere between 60%-80% of the American Cognac market. It makes perfect sense for a bling brand to be found in South Africa where it would not be out of place at ZAR or similar bling establishments. It ...
